Art for me is a collection of shocks.
This is the way art enters us—into the material—through visible passages and invisible energy, from the outside to the inside, to and beyond the information that separates us.
I approach it as a kind of researcher seeking a glimpse, to create and be created through shock.

A random, accidental shock is enough to produce change—a manipulation—that undermines the very ability to predict it.
It brings me into spaces of certainty and uncertainty, where creation occurs and something new is born: a reaction, an awakening.
Only shocks can awaken a person from the sleep in which they lie.

Given a proper change, a person is shocked and survives.
Given an improper change, a person is shocked and falls apart.

When a person disintegrates, they break into pieces that crave connection—to act, to touch another—in order to survive.
Shock gives me hope.
It opens within me the possibility to react and to act, to continue falling apart.

Art assumes as much from the material as it offers—it sanctifies dissolution.
It knows that only through breaking can human potential be realized: to join another.
That is why, for me, the path of creation always passes through the question of intimacy.
